Shopping malls are a curious thing. Before I moved to Asia, I had thought them to be a very American icon. While cities in Europe had malls, they weren't town focal points. Asia, however, now does shopping malls better--and bigger--than any I've ever experienced in the US. This week on Novel Adventurers, we're writing about shopping around the world, and I take a look at the vast popularity of Asian shopping malls. Please stop by and take a look!  Here's the link.

Today on the Novel Adventurers we're writing about cross cultural influences. I took a look back at a few crazy Christmases I spent crowd watching in China. While Christmas is a family affair for most Americans, in China people like to celebrate outside, almost like a street carnival.

A  Menagerie of Chinese Sayings--A Novel Adventurers Post

Chinese sayings have always intrigued me--they're colorful, often poetic, sometimes a bit comical, and perennially relevant.

This week on Novel Adventurers we've been talking about proverbs. I wrote about my quest to find more Chinese sayings when I first came to China in 2006.

Follow the link below to read what I wrote--and find out why the monkey on the right is wearing such a grand hat!

This week on Novel Adventurers we're looking at poetry around the world. Like books, in poetry I'm always seeking a story, a place, a description that will transport me.  One of my lifelong favorite poets is Canadian Robert Service, who wrote verse about the Gold Rush.   Please visit the site and see the blog. Happy reading!

The poor dog.
This week on the  Novel Adventurers blog, we're talking about marketing around the world.

My post is about the silly/inaccurate English that is often used on packaging and ads here in China--in a misguided attempt to sex up products.

I hope it makes you smile!

Kaili Crack Buns--a featured WanderTale on Wanderlust and Lipstick

I was extremely pleased to find out that my ode to baked goods, Kaili Crack Buns, has been featured on the Wanderlust and Lipstick women's travel site.

I wrote the essay while living in Guizhou Province, China, a few years ago.  Kaili is a small city that foreign tourists usually only use as a jumping-off point to get to the ethnic minority villages of southeast Guizhou. Enjoy!
